Village of Bayfield  |  Bayfield River Flats Fundraising Campaign

In a volunteer capacity, I led the brand development, communications strategy, and fundraising campaign to support the purchase and development of what would become a new community park on the banks of the Bayfield River. At the time, no government grant funding was available to support the land acquisition. Rather than relying primarily on a small group of major donors, I recommended a community-driven fundraising approach that would not only generate the funds required for the purchase, but also build public awareness, community ownership, and long-term support for the project. This strategy preserved opportunities to pursue larger private donations and matching grant funding during future development phases.

Campaign Deliverables
  • Developed the project’s brand identity, which ultimately informed the park’s permanent signage and visual presence.
  • Created a tiered donor recognition program featuring suggested giving levels of $250, $500, and $1,000, paired with branded incentives including patches, tote bags, and T-shirts that increased community visibility and engagement.
  • Designed and implemented a communications and fundraising strategy focused on broad community participation rather than a small number of major donors.

Results
  • Mobilized a significant portion of Bayfield’s population of approximately 1,500 residents in support of the project.
  • Successfully raised the funds required to purchase the property and generated substantial seed funding for early park development initiatives.
  • Created a strong record of community support and engagement, strengthening future fundraising and grant applications by demonstrating clear public interest in the project.
